Baptism
There are seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church which are essential for salvation and living the life that Christ intended us to live. Of these seven, there are three important Sacraments that initiate an individual and welcome him or her into the family of Christ – Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation. Baptism is the foundation of the Sacrament of initiation and frees one from original sin. The Baptism ceremony symbolises the washing away of sins and cleansing the soul by immersing it in water. Baptism is an important Sacrament and being baptised is an important part of being initiated into the family of the Catholic Church.
Holy Communion
Unity with Christ: Taking part in holy communion fuses us with Christ . St. Cyril of Alexandria said “when melted wax is fused with other wax.” The Christian journey is a journey to become like Christ, to “abide in him” and he in us. The holy communion is the means for this to take place . Cleanse venial sin: The holy Communion will cleanse us from venial sins . When we receive Holy Communion we are united with Charity himself, which burns away the vestiges of our venial sins and leaves us cleansed and ready to begin again. Protect us: Holy Communion can protect us from Mortal sins as if a shield has come upon us.
